I get a message that reads: "Your run this application from a local area network. Please check port forwarding."

SOLUTION: You connect to the Internet through a device such as a broadband router or (NAT) router/firewall. This device is preventing OliveViewer and/or OliveProjector from establishing a connection with the Internet. To correct this, you must enable "port forwarding" on your router.

Here is how to enable port forwarding on popular routers from two manufacturers, Netgear and Linksys. If your router is produced by a different manufacturer, please see your router manual or consult this website: www.portforward.com for instructions.

Enabling port forwarding on your router:

  1. Determine the "IP address" of the computer running the OliveLink software. This can be done by clicking the "Start" Menu, then Run.

In the Run window type the word "Command" and click the [OK] button.

In the black window that appears type the word "IPCONFIG" and press the [Enter] key. This will produce some infor- mation on your network connection. One of the items is "IP Address"(a series of 4 number sequences separated by a period. E.g., 192.168.1.1). Write the IP address down.

    Close this window.
  2. Login to your router's control panel.

To do this, open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.).

      For Netgear Routers:

      a. In the address bar type http://192.168.0.1 and press [Enter].

      b. In the popup window type "Admin" for the user name and "Password" for the password. (If you have changed your username or password, type those in here instead.) This will open your Router's control panel.

      c. From the menu on the left, under "Advanced" you will see "Port Forwarding". Click on it. This opens the Port Forwarding Menu.

      d. Click the [Add Custom Services] button.

      e. Type OliveLink as the service name and enter any number between 55501 and 55509 as the starting and ending port (e.g., starting port: 55502, ending port: 55502). Enter the IP address you wrote down in Step 1 in the Server IP Address window.

      f. Make sure the "Enable Service" box is checked and click the [Add] button.

You have successfully enabled port forwarding on your router. You may now close your browser.

      For Linksys Routers:

      a. In the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 and press [Enter].

      b. In the popup window leave the user name blank and "Password" for the password. (If you have changed your user name or password, type those in here instead.) This will open your Router's control panel.

      c. From the tabs on the top of the window, click the "Advanced" Tab.

      d. Click the "Port Forwarding" (also called "Applications and Gaming" on some versions).

      e. Type OliveLink as the service name and enter any number between 55501 and 55509 as the starting and ending port (e.g., starting port: 55502, ending port: 55502). Enter the IP address you wrote down in Step 1 in the Server IP Address window.

      f. Make sure the "Enable Service" box is checked and click the [Apply] ([Ok] on some versions) button.

You have successfully enabled port forwarding on your router. You may now close your browser.
